BCBS consultation on STC short term securitisations

The Basel Committee on Banking Supervision is consulting on the criteria and capital treatment of simple, transparent and comparable (STC) short term securitisations. Submissions are due by 5 October 2017.

The proposed STC criteria specifically focus on exposures related to asset-backed commercial paper (ABCP) conduits.

Although the Australian ABCP market is no longer significant, the ASF is open to receiving comments or discussing with current ABCP stakeholders whether there are concerns or issues in an Australian context that should be put forward in a submission.

When releasing final APS 120 earlier this year, APRA stated that given the more simplified framework under APS 120 it did not see an immediate need to implement an STC standard, and would be happy to engage with the industry on STC criteria at a later date.

Please feel free to contact Robert Gallimore regarding the BCBS consultation.
